My LUSH Skincare Routine – Just 4 Easy Steps

If I’m being honest, skincare was never something I really cared about. My go to face cleanser was a five dollar bottle filled with chemicals from the local drugnstore. It felt like my face was clean after washing it and I wasn’t breaking out, so I thought that was good enough. It wasn’t until I started eating right, working out, and caring about what I put into my body that I realized I had to change what I used on my body as well. So I trashed my nasty and cheap drugstore products, and did some research online about natural, cruelty-free skincare.

Since I had no idea where to start, I began watching YouTubers explain their skincare routines, specifically Jaclyn Forbes, a vegan YouTuber. She has a ton of videos about Lush products and I couldn’t stop watching them! I went to Lush as soon as possible with a better idea of which products to look at.

I’ve been to Lush before for their bath bombs, but I never spent time looking at anything else. I knew I wanted a facial cleanser, a toner, and a moisturizer. My first trip to Lush was really fun and the employees were so sweet and helpful!

I have really sensitive combination skin; my T-Zone is super oily, my cheeks and jawline are dry, and just about anything can make me break out (especially sugar, stress, and hormones). The girl helping me suggested I try Herbalism for a cleanser, Tea Tree Water for a toner, and Enzymion for the moisturizer. Enzymion was a bit too high in price for me, so the next one she suggested was Celestial. I was hesitant in buying everything since I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it all, so she gave me samples for each and explained what order to use them in. (Don’t judge – I did say I had no idea where to start!)

It turns out I loved everything and was hooked on Lush!! I went back a week later and bought it all. Here is my current skincare routine in just a few easy steps.

Step #1: Face Cleanser

Herbalism ($16.95 for 3.5 oz)

I always start with using my favorite facial cleanser. I mentioned earlier that I used cheap drugstore brands that were filled with chemicals and those little microplastic beads – gross, right?! I’m so glad Lush introduced me to Herbalism. This cleanser is one of their bestsellers and has 4.4 stars on their website.

Herbalism is great for those with oily skin – it has kaolin clay and rice bran to help soak up excess oils. Other ingredients in this face cleanser are chamomile and rosemary – to calm and tone, and rose absolute – to soothe and balance. One of my favorite things about this product has to be the ground almonds that Lush added for a gentle exfoliation. It’s not harsh and doesn’t leave the skin feeling raw. Herbalism is most known for it’s bright green color! The color comes from Chlorophyllin that’s extracted from Alfalfa plants, and helps balance out your skin’s production of oil with its nourishing minerals and vitamins.

If I’m being honest, I’ve tried a couple of the Lush’s facial cleansing bars and they definitely don’t compare to Herbalism! It does have a distinct herbal scent, so if that’s not something that would bother you then I suggest giving it a try.

All you need is about a quarter size amount, mix it with water to create a paste, and rub it all over your face just like you would with any other cleanser.

Step #2: Face Mask

Mask of Magnaminty - Lush Face Mask
Mask of Magnaminty ($14.95 for 4.4 oz)

Face masks have many great benefits! It’s recommended that you apply a face mask 1-3 times a week; I personally do them once or twice. Benefits of face masks include: firmer skin, even skin tone, refined pores, and rehydration of skin. Ironically, I have yet to try a face mask from Lush. But I hear great things about Mask of Magnaminty, so I’m anxious to try it! The ingredients include honey to moisturize the skin, bentone gel and kaolin clay for a deep cleanse, as well as peppermint oil to invigorate the skin. It also has Aduki Beans for exfoliation. Mask of Magnaminty currently has 4.6 out of 5 stars on Lush’s website.

I like to apply a face mask after getting ready for bed when I’m about to relax with a good book, or when I’m catching up on my favorite t.v. shows. I know some people like to apply their’s before a shower. There really is no rule on when you should apply one, so do it whenever you feel comfortable.

Step #3: Toner

Tea Tree Toner ($10.95 for 3.3 fl. oz)

When I started this skincare journey I had no idea what a toner was. Now I’m super thankful for my toner that I use all of the time! Toners are designed to shrink those pesky pores and to cleanse the skin. The toner I use is perfect for balancing out my complexion and keeping the oils on my face in check.

After washing my face, I go right for my beloved Tea Tree Water and spritz it directly on to my face. There are a couple of different ways to apply toner – spray it directly to your face and wipe it off with a cotton pad, or spray it on cotton pad and wipe it on your face. I choose to spray right on to my face because it feels really refreshing!

Tea Tree Water is great for anyone with oily, tired, or dull skin. It has tea tree, grapefruit, and juniper berry waters in it to help cleanse, clarify, balance, and uplift your skin. It doesn’t contain any alcohol, so your skin won’t feel tight or dry after using it.

Step #4: Moisturizer

Celestial ($26.95 for 1.5 oz)

I never knew how much my skin actually needed a moisturizer until I started using one. My skin can become super dry, and it gets red and stings a lot; my go-to Lush moisturizer is Celestial and it’s perfect for those with sensitive skin.

Celestial is one of Lush’s most gentle moisturizers. It has a cocoa butter base that melts onto the skin, leaving your face feeling super soft! It also has vanilla water, fresh dove orchid, and almond milk which helps the skin retain moisture. Even though it’s recommended for sensitive skin, the formula is gentle enough to be used as a night cream by all skin types. Customers love this one, giving it 4.5 stars.

I repeat these steps twice a day – morning and night. It’s become such a routine for me that if I forget to do it then I feel like something is missing from my life! I’m also able to figure out what my skin is telling me now. I know when it’s feeling dry, tight, and oily (which is something I never noticed before) and I know what I need to do to fix the issue.

Even though some of these products are pricey, they last a long time. I still have at least half a bottle of toner and an almost full container of moisturizer left after using them religiously for three months straight. I did run out of Herbalism after two months, but I always used more than the recommended amount. These products are really fresh, so they do have expiration dates.

A tip for anyone new to Lush – SAMPLE, SAMPLE, SAMPLE. Lush employees are more than happy to send you home with samples if you aren’t sure if you want to commit to something. Also, Lush will give you a free fresh face mask when you bring in five clean pots (containers) for them to recycle. You can also bring back the sample pots to be recycled, but these don’t count towards the five.

I’ve been using a Lush skincare routine for the last four months now and there has been such a difference. My skin is more even – the redness around my nose has calmed down. I don’t feel as oily as I used to – the amount of oil production has reduced drastically. The pores on my nose appear smaller, and I’m not breaking out as much. Recently, I became lazy and haven’t been as consistent. The result? I broke out and my face felt rough! I went right back to my regimen and my face started to clear up again.

I’m not promising the same results for everyone because obviously we all have skin that reacts differently. But I do suggest ditching the drugstore brands and going with natural, fresh, cruelty-free products. If you’re trying to figure out a skincare routine that works for you then I recommend trying Lush!

Let me know in the comments below if you’re going to try any of these products, or if you already have a favorite product from Lush. If you’re a fellow Lushie, do you have any advice for me, or recommend a different product that I should try? Would you guys want to see me demo my skincare routine in a YouTube video?
